Personal Data OS
“The foundation of a self-hosted personal analytics platform built around privacy and data ownership.”
Overview
The project establishes a modular foundation for aggregating personal data without SaaS lock-in. The implemented phase includes a Go API, React frontend, PostgreSQL connection, OpenAPI contract, Docker Compose and CI pipeline.
The Challenge
Creating a durable base for different data domains without prematurely building the analytics modules that remain on the roadmap.
Approach & Architecture
A modular monolith was chosen: a Go API with explicit SQL, PostgreSQL, an OpenAPI contract and a feature-oriented React frontend. Infrastructure and layer boundaries were established before the functional modules.
Key Features
- Go API with health check and graceful shutdown
- PostgreSQL pool and versioned migrations
- OpenAPI 3.1 contract
- CI covering tests, lint, race detection and vulnerability checks
Technical & Ethical Notes
Sleep, reading, habits, workout and GitHub activity modules remain on the roadmap and are not presented as completed features.
